Saturday 12 May Athens Day three

Today we headed for the centre of town. Started at Parliament buildings in Syntagma square where we fed the pigeons and looked at the guards (suddenly Kia's costume for the Greek dance at end-of-year ballet concert made a lot more sense). We set off for Benaki museum but went the wrong way and ended up at the university, where a lot of extremely unfortunate beggars hang out. Bit of an eye opener for us all. Finally found the Benaki museum, where the kids endured for an hour or so before we walked purposefully in the heat to the top of Lykavittos Hill for a stunning 360 view of Athens. Back down the hill in time to catch the Ministry of Silly Walks, aka the changing of the guard in front of Parliament. Tram home and back to the little neighbourhood taverna for dinner once more, stuffed aubergine and roast pork tonight, YUM! Getting into the continental late night meals - eating at around 9pm. Now home to bed tired, full and happy.
